I was looking at the Sunderland site tonight and saw they didn't fair so well in Saturdays game having their first loss this season. :( Well you know I must be in love by following the football results now! lol And I see I'm even more hooked on a certain Brit as I'm calling it football now instead of Soccer! LOL Oh I'm in deep!! :) Love you baby! xxxx

Back when G and I were messing around with Groups, we both did this weekly trivia chat. We had/have friends from all over, and like so much of the 'net, they complained that many of the questions were US-based.
They have/had a point, esp. in trivia.
So, when it was my time to host the quiz and come up w/ questions, I started researching other things, British history, some stuff on tv shows (Eastenders, things like that, plus the connection between many American shows and their UK roots)
I was getting some footy trivia when I saw where Man U. had just become the most valuable sports franchise in the world. (the Dallas Cowboys have been in the top three for the longest time) I read the diff. names, some odd-sounding to me (as if a lot of Texas names aren't odd) and found Arsenal.
Wow, that sounded cool, military connotation, tough team I thought. I mentioned that to my friend Minnie who lives in Colchester...
...and now I'm an avid Chelsea fan. It was hard to convince her that I REALLY wasn't a Arsenal fan. She sent me some Chelsea gear, nice jerseys for being a quick turncoat.
Being a Dallas Cowboy fan, I know all about jumping off and on a bandwagon.
All I know about footy is I'm also really glad I didn't tell her I was a Liverpool fan. (I thought about it before picking Arsenal; the Beatles, all that, you see)
I'd been a scouser, whatever that is. It doesn't sound good, either.
And one more thing while I'm blathering on: I said something above about how the "Dallas Cowboys have..." and when I hear Brit sports announcers, it's always something like:
"Chelsea are expected to be back in the hunt again this year."
It's not wrong, not when one considers the object to be a single thing, such as a team, but we Americans use the plural and it must be because we consider a "team" to be composed of multiple subjects. I've always found that odd.
Of course, we Americans, esp. we Texans, have butchered the Queen's English (and before that, the King's) for centuries.
