I used to have the paperback of that, dunno what I did with it, seems like some little kitty I once had chewed it up.
I haven't seen the flick in a long while. I watched "Sink the Bismark" just the other day and was trying to remember a similar film to "633", only factual, where the Brits used round bombs to destroy a dam.
Probabaly the Dam Busters you are talking about ? I love to see war mo0vies , always liked the factual ones the best , especially escape ones. Guess it was because my dad liked them a lot too . Dont think I saw Sink the Bismark ,will have to rent it out for the evening sometime.
Just the other day in a political forum they were discussing an old John Wayne WWII film "In Harm's Way". It's not Wayne's best flick and the special effects are cheesy, but it's one of my favorite "war" movies.
I say "war" because the war is not the main focus of the movie...not so much action, but is more of a character development. It stars Wayne, Patricia Neal, Kirk Douglas and other big stars that aren't involved as much in the film as those three.
Another war movie, a heart breaking one, is "A Midnight Clear", and I need to see it again.
I also need to find a film I watched years and years ago about Vietnam called "The Odd, Angry Shot". It was about a company of Australian soldiers who fought in that conflict.
If you ever get a chance, rent "The Red Badge of Courage", a movie about our War Between the States. It stars Audie Murphy, a real-life WWII hero (the most decorated US soldier) who also starred in several cowboy flicks and in the movie version of his autobiography "To Hell and Back", as well. (another one of my fav. war movies)
Flipping thru the channels just a bit ago, I was delighted to see that "The Dam Busters" is showing on TCM.
It'd been a while since I had seen it...ok, a LONG while...but I had forgotten the dog's name. I went to the IMDB listing to read some about it, then went to a couple of YouTube vids from the movie.
Funny that I'd forget that.
Anyway, I read that "Dam Busters" was the inspiration for "633".
Lots of war movies on this weekend. Hope you two have a good Memorial Day!
